Dr. Latifa MOKHTAR JAMAI is the first female gynecologist in Morocco. She obtained her doctorate in medicine in Strasbourg and specialized in obstetrics and gynecology in Paris. Dr. Jamai practiced medicine in France before returning to Morocco, where she advocated for women’s rights, particularly in the area of reproductive health. Since the 1970s, Dr. Jamai has been training midwives on family planning and has actively participated in more than 250 medical caravans. She is recognized by the Moroccan court and is an expert on judiciary issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Until July 2023, Dr. Jamai served as the president delegate of the Moroccan Family Planning Association (AMPF), accumulating over 30 years as a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) of the Arab World. Dr. Jamai has been honored twice, once for her pioneering role as the first female gynecologist by the Ministry of Health, and again for her feminist leadership by national NGOs, particularly ‘Fes SAISS’.
